About Priyadarshini John

" My own work revolves primarily around the possibilities of connecting image, text and performance, and also in the ‘live’ experiential aspect of photography, seeing the process of shooting itself as an interactive experience
I have been trying to evolve a means of portraiture that takes into account the fact of observational impact, the essential lack of spontaneity that comes along with photography, and to work with the possibilities, then of using this awareness of the person being photographed to engage them more directly with the creation of the image itself. The project that I am currently working on consists of a series of body interviews that are conducted photographically, and the material generated is seen as coming out of a collaborative, interactive space between the person being photographed and the photographer.
Keeping this in mind, I see the expansion of " Open doors’ as a way of engaging with and creating narrative portraits with the women prisoners, and see this project as having further collaborative possibilities with the people involved. "
